The Ensemble

The Craftsbury Chamber Players is a partnership of musicians and community dedicated to making live chamber music an enduring part of our culture.

Founded in 1966, the CCP is a group of world-class musicians who perform both masterworks and lesser known chamber music gems every summer. Concerts feature ever-changing ensemble configurations. The programs offer an engaging musical journey, balancing tradition and innovation with scale and scope. The music ranges from the classical, romantic, 20th century and contemporary periods. Jim Lowe, music critic for the Times Argus wrote, “The Craftsbury Chamber Players are responsible for some of the best and most interesting chamber music in Vermont.”

The players come from around the world, drawn by the Vermont scenery and way of life, plus a desire to play challenging chamber music together. The Summer Chamber Music festival runs the last three weeks of July and the first three weeks of August. Concerts are Wednesday evenings at the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michaels College, Colchester (map), and Thursday evenings at the Hardwick Town House (map), Hardwick.

Since the beginning, the Craftsbury Chamber Players have shared their art with the youngest members of the community by performing FREE “Mini Concerts for Children and Their Friends.” These programs take place in the afternoon of each concert day and feature music excerpted from the evening performances. The performers offer explanations and demonstrations geared to this very special young audience to guide them inside some of the greatest music ever written.
